With our first week in the books, we have already accomplished so much. On our first day together, we read First Day Jitters by Julie Danneburg, and then created a pictograph graph about our first day feelings. We also read a Jitter Juice Poem and drank jitter juice to help us calm our nerves!
In math, we created our own bar graphs using colored pop cubes and discussed what the terms "most", "least", and "equal" mean. Throughout the week, we spent a lot more time creating bar and pictographs to help us get to know each other.
In reading, we talked about three ways to read a book. After that, we practiced our read to self stamina. The first round of read to self lasted 30 seconds, but the second time we practiced we made it to 1 minute and 42 seconds. By the end of the week, we made it to over 6 minutes! If you would like to learn more about Daily 5 and Read to Self, you can check out the gold Parent Guide brochure that was included in your child's red folder on Meet the Teacher night!
We had a first day of school photo shoot. You can see the photos from this shoot below. Also throughout the week, we enjoyed listening to Mrs. Jordan read If You Take a Mouse to School, learned about the first five habits of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, and began learning the components of math workshop.
